Music is communication.  It is a language common to all people.  It is an expression of our humanness.  I believe everyone should be able to make music.  Music enhances one's quality of life.  My goal for every student is to learn to communicate through music.  This can be achieved at many different levels depending on the student's own ability, age, and level of development.  The ultimate goal is to communicate as a musical artist.  This has been my continual pursuit as a pianist, the fruits of which I enthusiastically share with all my students.

A student must have a strong foundation in music theory, history, etc., for these provide an environment in which a student is able to function intelligently and knowledgeably.  Beyond this is the development of the student as a pianist, to learn to control their instrument via their technique, which allows them the freedom to communicate musically through their instrument.

Each student has their own strengths and weaknesses.  There is not one program for development that will apply to all students.  Rather, each student's training must be tailored to the individual needs of the student.  Above all, I aim to keep foremost in the student's mind and heart the reason we do any of this at all:  that is, the quest to achieve an ever greater expression of ourselves, to better ourselves as human beings, and to communicate this to others through our music making.
